FAQ's about online THERAPY+e-Counselling

What's Online Therapy/e-Counselling?

Therapy, but online. We chat via video conference call using a private line through OnCall Health. You can chat from the comfort of your own home.

Will I get what I need online? Is it for me?

Everyone is different. I've been blown away by the success of online therapy, in that it allows people to feel comfortable much faster, as they are already in the comfort of their own home, among a number of other contributing factors. Online might not be for you, and I trust that you'll find the right therapist for you. And then of course, there are the realities of technology... if your connection is unstable, if you don't have access to a connection etc. then in-person therapy is the way for you to go. Like anything, it's figuring out what's right for you!

What are your fees?

My fees are $135+HST (individual) per 50-minute psychotherapy session. Your payment is taken through Jane.app - the online platform we use to video conference call. CCs are securely kept on file for automatic payment following our session. *Initial visits are $150+hst per 50-minute session.

*Some clients prefer longer sessions and that can be discussed.

Therapy's expensive. Is it worth the cost?

I often tell clients that therapy is a financial commitment, and also an investment in yourself. This is an act of self-care and an investment in your overall well-being and success in life. Therapy gives you the opportunity to become aware of your blind-spots, self-sabotaging patterns and moreover, allows you to practice new, more effective ways of being that can profoundly and positively impact your future relationships, your work, your health and even your finances. Although psychotherapy is not covered under OHIP, many private healthcare plans support this and may be covered. Please check with your provider and ask for any help or further information you may need from me to find out.

How often should I come?

Ideally, it is recommended that you come once a week for 50-minute sessions in the beginning, so that you can get into the groove and then switch to less if you wish. *Some clients prefer longer sessions and that can be discussed. Further information below.

How many sessions will I need?

It’s impossible to predict how long you will be in therapy once you begin. For some, a short stint is all they need, for others, therapy begins a process that can take years. Therapy is most effective when you are willing to take it beyond the hour you spend with your therapist and into your daily life. I ask upfront what your expectations are so we can be open about the plan that will work for you!

Do you accept insurance?

Psychotherapy is not covered under OHIP, however if you have private insurance, check to see if psychotherapy is covered under your plan.

What exactly is therapy?

Simply put, therapy – also called psychotherapy or counselling – is the process of meeting with a trained professional for an ongoing basis to help you recognize and change deep-rooted and potentially self-sabotaging mental and emotional behaviors, thoughts, and patterns that are keeping you feeling stuck, in pain, and away from the life you want to live.

*Therapy often gets a bad rap - either it's all based in the past, it has to be painful and/or cathartic etc. and although these moments exist, therapy can look and feel different for everyone. I start in present moment with clients and find patterns in their life. Self-exploration can actually be fun. Although everyone's experience is different, often energetic approaches feel very serene. Therapy can actually be a positive experience. It's not all doom and gloom.

What can I expect from our first session?

Our first session is an intake session, where I ask you a number of questions that span all avenues of your life. This way I get a snapshot into your world and gain context and background, which helps with the work moving forward. This allows us to widen the lens and look at the entire picture. We often get zoned in on one aspect of our life, when often more than one aspect is worth looking at. We’ll talk about why you have decided to pursue therapy and what your goals are for our time together. It’s also an opportunity for you to get to know me, to ask me any questions you may have, and to see how you feel with me. At the end of the session, we can decide together if it feels right to move forward in scheduling another session and beginning the rest of the therapeutic journey.

What kind of clients do you work with?

I mainly work one-on-one with women in nurturing roles, often going through major life transitions and/or struggling with their identity: coming into adulthood, marriage, having children (pre and post natal), job transitions, divorce, retirement, etc. Many of my clients are female professionals and I also work with graduate, undergrad, and high school students, too. Many clients are first-timers to therapy, and a number of my clients have been to therapy before and are seeking more of a holistic/spiritual approach, or one that reaches beyond talk therapy. My clients share something in common: they are people who are at a point where they’re willing to commit and invest in themselves and in therapy in order to change and create something different in their lives.

How do you go beyond 'talk therapy'?

I'm trained in Spiritual Psychotherapy and Spiritual Direction and consider your Spirit a vital piece of your healing journey. I consider all of this in our work together and use mindfulness, the chakra system, meditation, guided visualizations and other energy healing modalities in our sessions if that's where the work takes us. There are a number of ways to heal - talk therapy isn't the answer for everyone. I've found that sharing mindfulness and working with the chakra system is an amazing and powerful roadmap to healing and better understanding yourself. Yoga and meditation have been invaluable sources of relief for myself and others from depression and anxiety amongst other life challenges. You will find I'm very open to meeting you where you're at and staying attuned to your specific needs and wants. I am very interested in the science, art and mysticism of personal growth and well-being so it's a holistic approach.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. What you share with me in our sessions is completely confidential except in the case of 1) immediate threat of harm to self or other, 2) suspicion of child or dependent elder abuse, 3) in the case of a court subpoena. We’ll discuss all of this and my other office policies during your initial intake session.

If I go to therapy there must be something wrong with me; I should be able to handle this/figure it out on my own, right?

Making the decision to seek out therapy isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a wise act of self-care to reach out for support from professionals when there’s a challenge you need help with. You’d reach out to a doctor for help setting your broken bone or to a lawyer if you needed help filing divorce paperwork, wouldn’t you? When it comes to your mental and emotional health, it’s no different. Reaching out for professional support is an act of self-care to address the challenges you’re facing.

Where are you located?

I see clients Online.

What if I need to cancel?

Similar to most professions, a 24-hour cancellation policy is in place. Without sufficient notice, you will be charged the full amount for your appointment. The exception to this is illness or bad weather

What is a Cosmos Reading?

An intuitive and divinely guided channeled video session that will reveal your inner workings and give you direct access into your psychic field. This is not a psychotherapeutic or psychological service. This is Spiritual Healing.

We chat. You let me know quickly what's going on or if you have a specific question. We call in Higher Power, Higher Self, Guides, Spirits, whomever needs and wants to be present for the reading. I lead you through a short guided meditation and then I read your aura and chakras. I share any visuals and/or messages and we follow the guidance. We contain the chakras to close the reading. We ground. We debrief.

Sessions are 50 mins long.

You do "READINGS" too?

Yes, readings are not considered a psychotherapeutic or psychological service. I have been able to see auras for as long as I can remember and have strengthened this connection through my personal work. I also happen to be a therapist.

Since becoming a Spiritual Psychotherapist, I've been fearful of sharing this other part of myself, which is viewed as way more woo woo than intellectual and well, aren't therapists supposed to be the epitome of professional and intellectual???

This is the beautiful learning for me... we are not meant to be boxed up, fitting outdated molds. The only thing we are meant to do is be uniquely ourselves and no one else.

So, was my training in psychotherapy all a waste?!

Absolutely not! My psychotherapy training is a beautiful addition to this work and gives me the tools to deliver and support you, and also then work with you after SHOULD you need or ever want that after a reading with me.

Cosmos sessions often give you a road map to your “stuff” and then the real work begins.
